According to Denver-based sports reporter Troy Renck, Eric Bieniemy has withdrawn from consideration for Colorado’s head coach search.

The University of Colorado continues to mull over the options to replace departed football head coach Mel Tucker on Wednesday, but one report has the school doing so without Eric Bieniemy as part of the considered candidates.

Troy Renck is a Denver-based reporter for the local ABC affiliate who used to cover the Broncos as a beat writer. On Wednesday, he reported that Bieniemy was “not moving forward” in the search. The full post can be found below.

Bieniemy, currently the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs, is an alumnus of Colorado and set the school’s all time rushing record nearly 30 years ago—a record that still stands today. He also started his coaching career there as a running backs coach before returning as offensive coordinator back in 2011. Early reports indicated “preliminary mutual interest” on both sides but that quickly faded as the job search went on.

These days, Bieniemy is a red hot coaching candidate in NFL circles, enough to get four official interviews this winter and another three last year. Despite being passed over so many times, he’s still considered a favorite to be claimed by someone soon enough, and the addition of a Super Bowl ring will only bolster his credibility with owners and general managers.

For now, Bieniemy will enter the 2020 NFL calendar year preparing for his third season as offensive coordinator, his eighth total season working alongside Andy Reid in K.C.
