ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler notes there’s “no major traction” between Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and the head coaching job at Colorado.

If the latest rumors swirling in NFL circles can be trusted, it sounds as if Eric Bieniemy is over any sort of emotional idea of coaching at his alma mater, the University of Colorado, and will instead continue to wait on a future head coach opening at the NFL level.

ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler recently stated that Colorado has “been making overtures” toward Bieniemy, who is currently the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs, but that nothing major has come from them.

“I’m told that there’s no major traction right now and that Bieniemy knows going into next year, he’s going to be a very attractive head coaching candidate in 2021,” said Fowler. “He’s gone through seven interviews in two years, but this time he’s walked into a Super Bowl ring.”

Four of those interviews came this offseason as Bieniemy was a coaching finalist for openings with the Washington Redskins, New York Giants, Carolina Panthers, and Cleveland Browns. Only the Dallas Cowboys hired a new coach without checking in on Bieniemy this offseason.

Bieniemy has been passed over for two years now, leaving some to wonder what’s missing from his resume while others with lesser accomplishments earn the chances instead. Others have criticized minority hiring practices using Bieniemy as an example. Hopefully the Chiefs former running backs coach gets his chance sooner than later.

Colorado is looking to hire a new head football coach after losing Mel Tucker to Michigan State earlier this winter.
