No Huge Mistakes

The Kansas City Chiefs proved against the Houston Texans that they are never out of a football game. They got off to one of the worst postseason starts that I can ever remember seeing. While Houston played well in their 24-0 start to the game, the Chiefs were largely to blame for creating that deficit. They allowed a long touchdown pass due to blown coverage and dropped two key third down passes that would have extended drives. They also had a punt blocked and returned for a touchdown, and fumbled a punt that set Houston up for another quick score.

While that self-created deficit made for one of the most impressive and exciting comebacks in playoffs history, the Chiefs can’t do that and expect to get away with it against a team as talented and well-coached as the Niners. The Texans had a very susceptible defense and that isn’t the case with the 49ers. While the Chiefs certainly have it in them to come back from a couple of scores down, they can’t self destruct and make things easy for San Fran. In a game that I believe will be won by only a few points, a critical mistake at the wrong time could be the difference in this game.

Mahomes has been as clutch as can be in these playoffs, but he was almost let down by receiver drops and awful special teams play in the Texans game. That can’t happen in the Super Bowl. No blocked kicks. No fumbled returns. No giving points away without the 49ers really having to earn it. Despite what the regular season scoring numbers show, I believe the Chiefs have the superior offense in this matchup. They need to go out and force the 49ers to try and keep pace. That will be much easier for San Francisco to do if the Chiefs have huge mental mistakes or turnovers. If you can avoid doing that it will be much harder for the 49ers to keep up with K.C.’s offensive potential

Speaking of the 49ers offense trying to keep pace with the Chiefs, the next key is essential to that.
