The Kansas City Chiefs are relatively healthy with more than a week to go before the Super Bowl, but Demarcus Robinson is out with an illness.

As the Kansas City Chiefs begin to practice and prepare to face the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV, the team is fortunate to be as healthy as they are. There are definitely players they miss who have been lost for the entirety of the season, but for the most part, both sides are healthy and doing well entering the last game of a long, grueling season.

The only player missing practice for the Chiefs in this first of two weeks of preparation is wide receiver Demarcus Robinson. Head coach Andy Reid said Robinson would be the only player to miss practice on Wednesday, and that he was out with an illness.

The Chiefs have been dealing with some in-house illness in recent weeks. Backup quarterback Matt Moore and running back LeSean McCoy were both out for the AFC Championship game for the same reasons.

Robinson is not a high-profile target for the Chiefs given the sheer amount of playmakers that are available for Patrick Mahomes, but he’s an experienced player developed entirely in Reid’s system at the pro level who can come up big if the defense requires it. On the year, he has 32 catches for 449 and 4 touchdowns, but 172 of those yards (and 2 of those scores) came in a single game back in Week 2.

The 49ers defense is going to be tough, as any Super Bowl opponent would be, which means depth is going to be as important as ever. For a team like the Chiefs, if the Niners are able to somehow handle both tight end Travis Kelce and wideout Tyreek Hill, Robinson becomes a valuable asset that Mahomes can feed.

Robinson is in his final season of his rookie contract, so it’s uncertain where his future lies, but here’s hoping he has one more great performance in him for K.C. either way.

These former Chiefs deserved a Super Bowl moment, too. dark. Next
