One representative from Vivid Seats says that Tennessee Titans fans could make up over one quarter of those in attendance at Arrowhead Stadium.

The commonly held belief around the National Football League is that Arrowhead Stadium is one of the most difficult places for a team to visit. From the deafening crowd noise to the strong support for the home team, the Kansas City Chiefs own a valuable edge at home and it should only make a tough matchup on Sunday for the Tennessee Titans even tougher.

However, a representative from ticket seller Vivid Seats recent revealed to us that he believes more than a quarter of those who have tickets for Sunday’s game could be cheering for the wrong, er, road team.

“We believe that 27% of Arrowhead will be cheering for the Titans, a high number for a visiting team in the NFL — and the highest of any visiting team this playoffs,” says Andrew Gretchko, publicist for Vivid Seats.

While it’s impossible to gauge with 100 percent accuracy who will root for which team among all those who will attend Sunday afternoon’s AFC Championship, Gretchko says the data gives him a good idea of what to expect. In this instance, it’s a lot of blue mixed in with red and gold.

“We got to that conclusion by looking at our sales data. This isn’t as simple as reviewing billing zip codes; we go further than that to attribute fandom to every customer. It’s a proprietary formula that we’ve been refining for over a year. We started with neutral site games and eventually looked at everything from regular season games to last year’s Super Bowl.”

On the flip side, Gretchko says the NFC Championship game, hosted by the San Francisco 49ers, are only seeing visiting fans of the Green Bay Packers buying up seats at a 10 percent clip, 17 percentage points off of the Titans rate. It certainly helps that Nashville to Kansas City is a fairly easy trip, but the idea of so many visitors being able to occupy home field seats is disconcerting.
