The availability of Chris Jones remains unknown as the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to face the Tennessee Titans for a chance to go to the Super Bowl.

The calf injury that surprisingly sidelined Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones in Sunday’s win over the Houston Texans might also keep him out of the team’s upcoming game against the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke to reporters on Monday and made it clear that there’s simply no way of knowing the condition that Jones will be in six days before he’s scheduled to suit up and face down the Titans team that shocked the Chiefs with a loss at midseason.

Jones was healthy and ready to go coming off of a bye week and a Pro Bowl season for the Chiefs along the defensive line when he went down during practice on Wednesday with a calf injury. He was limited after that and designated as questionable for the game, but when working with trainers on the day of the win over the Texans, Reid said it was clear he was not able to go.

In his time with reporters, Reid would only offer the reality that Jones is “day to day” at this point and that only rest will help steer the ship for Jones to return. Given that the Chiefs face the hottest running back in football right now in Derrick Henry, the Chiefs can only hope that Jones can come back to help provide the disruptive presence that has dominated so many opponents this season.

Jones had 36 total tackles, including 8 for a loss, for the Chiefs this season. He also had 20 quarterback hits, 9 sacks, 4 batted passes, and 1 forced fumble. He earned his first Pro Bowl nomination in the process after earning his first All-Pro mention in 2018.
