Thousands of Kansas City Chiefs fans are showing their appreciation for Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick after he led his team to victory against the New England Patriots.

The Miami Dolphins defeated the New England Patriots in a Week 17 upset, a game which held tremendous significance for the latter. A win would have sealed the deal for the Patriots, guaranteeing the team a first-round bye and the No. 2 seed in the AFC. With a loss, the Patriots fell to No. 3 with the Kansas City Chiefs leapfrogging them into the second slot, subsequently locking up a first-round bye and at least one playoff game in Arrowhead Stadium.

Chiefs fans instantly began to voice their support for Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, whose 320-yard performance led his team to a Patriot rout. Signatures began to roll in on a petition for Fitzpatrick to be the drum leader for the Chiefs’ first playoff game of the 2019-2020 season, an honor which is usually bestowed to Chiefs alumni and personalities around Kansas City. Ultimately, the decision is up to the Chiefs and its staff, but Chiefs fans are clearly very appreciative of Fitzpatrick’s performance and it would be a pretty great honor.

Fitzmagic has made its way into Arrowhead, and it would not be far-fetched to predict that ‘Fitzmagic’ chants would erupt if Fitzpatrick were to be given the honor. Chiefs fans have shown their appreciation for Fitzpatrick in a number of ways, which also includes donating to a charity he proudly supports, the Concussion Legacy Foundation.

As of Tuesday morning, the petition has reached more than 26,000 signatures and is climbing steadily. As previously mentioned, the honor is usually bestowed to Chiefs alumni and personalities/fans, such as Kansas City’s own independent rapper, Tech N9ne, who was the drum leader for the Week 17 match up against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Regardless of the semantics, the petition is certainly a nice act of appreciation by Chiefs fans to show their gratitude for Fitzpatrick’s great performance against the Patriots.
