Los Angeles Chargers
We’ve already discussed the Chargers alongside the rest of the AFC West rivals, but the Bolts are also making a move into a new stadium next year. Maybe it will provide them some good luck (or at least some less embarrassing home environs).
Miami Dolphins
Miami is in the midst of a long-term rebuild and catching them in the second year of the entire process will make this one of the easiest games awaiting the Chiefs in 2020. Brian Flores might be the right head coach long-term but the Dolphins have so many holes on both sides of the ball that the Fins will be an easy out.
That said, it will be interesting to see if the Chiefs get their first glimpse of a quarterback like Tua Tagovailoa in this matchup. Miami has an interesting draft ahead, so it should be someone new under center. Or maybe it will be yet another round of Fitzmagic.
New Orleans Saints
If the Ravens game is not the hardest on the Chiefs schedule, then it’s this one—assuming nothing much changes and Drew Brees doesn’t retire. Even if he does, however, the Saints are always a ridiculously tough team based on how well-coached they are by Sean Payton.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bruce Arians has the Tampa Bay region excited about the possibilities for their football team, but everything here in this game will come down to the choices T.B. makes about their quarterback position. Jameis Winston has all the obvious tools but he’s been given plenty of time already to cement his role and it hasn’t worked out. Can Arians still work out his rough edges? Is it time to start over?
The Chiefs defense is built to force quarterbacks into making bad decisions, which seems like a matchup nightmare for the Bucs. If this is still Winston, I can imagine Frank Clark and company licking their chops at the thought of playing Tampa Bay next season.
