Allen Robinson is having one of his best seasons as a pro

During the 2018 offseason, there were a handful of big name wide receivers in free agency. Probably the biggest name was Sammy Watkins, and the Chiefs signed him to a very lucrative three-year deal. The second most prominent name was Allen Robinson.

Robinson was coming off a major knee injury, after tearing his ACL in the first week of 2017, so there were some questions surrounding whether or not he could return to form. His form in question was an 80 catch, 1,400 yard and 14 touchdown campaign in 2015.

While his first year with the Bears didn’t break any records, he has been nothing short of a great number one receiver in 2019. Through 14 games he’s caught 83 passes for 1,023 yards and 7 touchdowns. He’s far and away Trubisky’s favorite target, with nearly 50 percent more targets than the runner-up in Tarik Cohen.

The Bears may have struggled for the majority of the season and they may have been eliminated from playoff contention. That said, Robinson is on pace for one of his best seasons and should likely be the focal point of Spagnuolo’s defensive scheme on Sunday night.

The Bears defense is having another great season

This is probably no surprise to those reading, as the Bears defense is loaded with talent from top to bottom, but the unit is having another stellar year following the departure of new Broncos head coach Vic Fangio. I had my doubts about Chuck Pagano, and I’d still argue he’s no Vic Fangio, but he’s been able to get a high level of production this season.

The last three years the Bears have been incredible in points per game allowed. They were seventh in 2017, first in 2018, and 2019 is no different. Through 14 games they rank third in the league and are only allowing only 18.1 points per game. That number has increased in the last three games, but only to 21.2 points per game. That’s not all.

The Bears rank highly in nearly every category. They are eighth in total yards allowed, 13th in pass yards allowed, and sixth in rushing yards. They’re eighth on the year in third down percentage and currently rank seventh in Football Outsiders defensive DVOA rankings.

The Chiefs have played some very tough defenses this season, so they should be well prepared going into Sunday’s game. However, if this defense has a good day against the Chiefs offense this game could be a tougher one than most fans expect.
