Todd McShay of ESPN released his latest mock draft and he has the Kansas City Chiefs taking LSU cornerback cornerback Kristian Fulton.

ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay has released his latest mock draft for the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft, and he has the Kansas City Chiefs picking at No. 28 overall. He also has them selecting cornerback Kristian Fulton out of Louisiana State University.

Fulton has been linked to the Chiefs before near the bottom of the first round in other drafts, so this is not exactly a new name or even position for Chiefs fans who have been watching draft buzz alongside the team’s current run at the postseason.

LSU’s secondary is a loaded unit, but Fulton found a way to shine among such talented peers like Grant Delpit (who won this year’s Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s best defensive back).

Fulton is a 6’0, 200 lb. cornerback who was the nation’s No. 1 cornerback recruit back in 2016. This year, he has 31 total tackles to go with 12 batted passes and 1 interception.

The downside to Fulton would likely center on questions off the field, not on it. Fulton sat out the entire 2017 season due to a suspension levied after he was allegedly caught tampering with a urine test for performance-enhancing drugs. The original suspension was for 2018 as well, but an appeal finally allowed him to play after missing just one season. The Chiefs and other teams will want to do their own homework to develop enough trust to take him early.

As for the position itself, Fulton would slot in nicely as a starter on the outside who would work in tandem with Charvarius Ward. Rashad Fenton is the only other corner under contract for next season as Bashaud Breeland, Kendall Fuller, and Morris Claiborne are all free agents.
