We recently sat down with Ty Walden, expert for the Denver Broncos blog, Predominantly Orange, to hear more about this Sunday’s matchup.

The Kansas City Chiefs host the Denver Broncos on Sunday, and if the game is anything like their last matchup, the Chiefs defense is ready to put up some monster numbers. Earlier this season, the Chiefs defense turned the corner in the game in Denver and began a transformational journey that has made them an effective unit down the stretch—including a recent great performance stopping the New England Patriots in Week 14.

However the Broncos are in the midst of a transformation of their own. Drew Lock is the promising new quarterback in place to bring hope for the future. He’s won two in a row and a road win at Arrowhead would go a long way toward developing a swagger toward 2020.

Ty Walden is site expert over at Predominantly Orange, our sister blog on the FanSided network with a focus on the Denver Broncos. We asked him a few questions to see what he thinks of the Broncos present and future.

Is there any hot seat at all for John Elway and/or Vic Fangio this offseason?

The only hot seat I could have seen was for Rich Scangarello. But it was reported that he in fact will be sticking around next season. But I think with the trend the team is going in, I do not see the seats getting hotter this year.

The Broncos are playing inspired. Is this exciting for fans or, given the inability to achieve anything this year, are fans frustrated by the loss of a better draft standing?

Well, there is a slim chance (and I mean very slim chance) Denver gets into the postseason. So there could be something. But I think this is more promise for the 2020 season. Some fans are frustrated with draft standing, but I’d rather see improvement that I can be excited for in the next season.

Beyond Drew Lock, what are the 2-3 most exciting developments from this year?

Alexander Johnson, Justin Simmons, and Courtland Sutton. All three of these guys have shown that they can be the future of this team. I’m excited to see what they can do in the years to come.

Without Ronald Leary and Ju’Wuan James, how is the offensive front holding up?

They are doing okay. Still some silly holding calls here and there. But perhaps some solid draft pieces can go a long way next year.

Any final predictions for Sunday?

I think this game will be a lot closer than others believe. Denver has difficulties winning at Arrowhead in December. The Chiefs have won so many games against us. It’s bound to change soon. And I think it starts here.

Next. Chiefs defense is finding their identity at right time. dark
