Bryan Witzmann visits with Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs held a couple cornerback tryouts along with a visit on Tuesday from a familiar face in Bryan Witzmann.
Bryan Witzmann has been making the rounds in recent weeks as teams look to make some last minute roster additions during the stretch run of the regular season. The Kansas City Chiefs are the latest team to host a visit with Witzmann, who spent a couple years in K.C., with a reported appearance at Arrowhead Stadium on Tuesday along with a couple cornerbacks in town to try out for the team.
The New York Jets and New Orleans Saints have also brought in Witzmann for free agent visits since mid-November, a sign that many teams are actually hurting at this point due to injury and fatigue. The Chiefs saw Andrew Wylie leave the field with an injury on Sunday in the team’s big win over the New England Patriots. Perhaps this visit is about potential replacements in case news on Wylie isn’t good.
Witzmann was a nice success story for the Chiefs coaching staff as recently as two seasons ago. He entered the league in 2014 with the Houston Texans and bounced around the rosters of a few franchises before finding a home with the Chiefs. From there, he earned a starting spot on the roster between Eric Fisher and Mitch Morse, and he even started 13 games for the Chiefs in 2017—Alex Smith‘s final season with the team.
Witzmann has struggled to find a home since then although he did start several games for the Bears the following season after the team lost guard Kyle Long for the year due to injury. Witzmann has earned a contract, at least, from the Panthers, Browns, Dolphins, Vikings, Cowboys and Saints in addition to the teams already mentioned.
NFL reporter Howard Balzer notes that cornerbacks Kemon Hall and Trevon Mathis were also in Kansas City on Tuesday to try out for the Chiefs. Hall is a former starter for North Texas who earned a look from the Los Angeles Chargers earlier this year. Mathis is a Toledo product who has spent time with the Minnesota Vikings.
