The Kansas City Chiefs continue to reap the rewards of once claiming Harrison Butker from another team’s practice squad.

It was a November to remember for Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker.

While the team endured a bit of a rollercoaster during the month, from a pitiful loss to the Tennessee Titans to key divisional wins over the L.A. Chargers and Oakland Raiders, Butker was steady as ever and was honored for his performance by being named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for November.

Butker scored an incredible 42 points in a single month for the Chiefs and missed only a single field goal in the entire 30-day span. He converted 10 of 11 attempts along with 12 of 13 extra points to take home the award.

Perhaps Butker’s most impressive kick came just last week in the midst of swirling winds against the Oakland Raiders. While Butker’s field goal wasn’t needed on the scoreboard, since the Chiefs won by 31, it was still no less awesome given the conditions. On the opening drive of the third quarter, the Chiefs drove far enough for Butker to sink a 50-yard field goal that would have been good from several more yards down the middle in the face of winds that were affecting the passers of both teams left and right.

Butker made four fields in each of the first two games of the month—against the Minnesota Vikings and Titans—and has only missed a single field goal inside of 50 yards all year. He’s 2 for 5 from beyond the 50-yard line.  This is Butker’s third win as a special team’s player of the month and his first since his rookie season.

Butker originally joined the Chiefs as a practice squad grab from the Carolina Panthers after Cairo Santos went down with a groin injury. Butker took the reins and never looked back once getting a foothold on the kicking role. The Chiefs rewarded him with a long-term contract extension last summer.
