My Prediction – Chiefs 27, Patriots 20

Here’s the thing, I still think that the Chiefs are one of the best teams in the entire NFL. Even with as poorly as they’ve played for the middle stretch of this season, relative to the sheer brilliance they displayed on offense last season, they’re the type of team that has the talent to turn it on any given game and destroy teams.

The Patriots, on the other hand, I’m fairly convinced are largely the benefactors of an incredibly easy schedule in 2019. They have played one of the softest schedules I can remember, which is absolutely crazy considering they won the Super Bowl last season. For the record, they have only beaten two teams with a winning record while the opponents they’ve defeated have a combined record of 48-72. What’s worse, their schedule is peppered with what are some of the worst run franchises in pro sports right now including the Dolphins and the Jets.

The Chiefs are a better team, with a huge advantage offensively. Their defense is not near the unit the Patriots have, but the Patriots are so poor offensively I’m not sure it really matters. They’ve struggled to run the ball, the Chiefs defense’s major weakness, and are an average passing team at best. However, there are obviously a lot of caveats here.

The Chiefs were a better team in last year’s AFC Championship game and yet they still lost. As much as I love Andy Reid, Bill Belichick is the greatest coach in the NFL’s history. In fact, he might be the greatest coach in the history of sports. In football, that is a major advantage that can often overcome a number of deficiencies. I think the Chiefs can win and should win because of talent, but it is not a given.
