The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up to face the Patriots and they will be without cornerbacks Rashad Fenton and Morris Claiborne in early practice.

The Kansas City Chiefs have begun their week of practice on Wednesday as they prepare to visit the New England Patriots in Week 14 for one of the most anticipated games of the season. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, they’re hurting at a couple key positions: running back and cornerback.

The running back situation is fairly obvious and the Chiefs have made recent measures to shore up any concerns with the signing of Spencer Ware to the roster. Both Damien Williams and Darrel Williams will be sitting in practice and could not only miss the game but another week, depending on how each injury comes along.

The addition of Ware gives the Chiefs a third back to put in tandem with LeSean McCoy, who has been used sparingly at times by the Chiefs for the sake of keeping him in shape for the stretch run, and Darwin Thompson, who had a total of 5 carries on the year coming into the team’s recent win over the Oakland Raiders. The inexperience and need to save Shady a bit led to the Chiefs signing Ware to the active roster and Elijah McGuire to the practice squad in recent weeks.

As for the cornerbacks, both Rashad Fenton and Morris Claiborne will be sitting out practice on Wednesday entirely. The Chiefs pass coverage has been good to excellent this season and the biggest surprise of the year is undoubtedly the turnaround of this very unit. Much of that is due to the talent and depth provided by both players, so these injuries will be something to watch leading up to the Patriots game.

In addition, Frank Clark, the team’s star defensive end, will continue to be limited in practice due to a shoulder injury. That will be another situation to watch as the game gets closer on the schedule.
