Around the AFC West: Chiefs win big even on a bye week

Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs are coming off their bye week. Players enjoyed a 15 and the Mahomies Gala in which almost a quarter of a million dollars was donated to area Kansas City charities. I’m sorry, but I cannot love our quarterback any more. He is just the best. Not only that, but Tyrann Mathieu spent his bye week donating turkeys ((and the day his new baby daughter was born). Congrats! This team was all about charity this week.
Let’s hope, however, that on top of their charitable work, they were getting healthy. Early reports make it seem like that is the case. The Chiefs reported on Monday (through our dear leader) that LeSean McCoy is not in the concussion protocol. In addition, Tyreek Hill’s hamstring strain was deemed minor and all signs point to his playing on Sunday. I suspected his injury was minor given that he stayed on the sideline in uniform on Monday night’s win, but it is always reassuring to hear from Andy Reid himself.
This week, the Chiefs host the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders are the only other team that can conceivably vie for the AFC West crown. They are certainly still in the conversation for a Wild Card spot, but with the absolutely shellacking they took on Sunday (drink!), the Chiefs are firmly in control and can effectively (but not actually) clinch the AFC West.
If the Chiefs win on Sunday, the chances of the Raiders claiming the AFC West crown is minuscule. The Raiders do not historically play well at Arrowhead and, theoretically, this will be the first time the offense will play together, healthy on a field that is not well-painted sand. This will surely be a battle, but I believe the Chiefs will have benefited from the bye and will shut down any speculation about who is the best in the west.
Opening line odds for the Chiefs in Week 13: -10.0.
Game time is 3:25 p.m.
