Former Chiefs tight end Ross Travis resurfaces with Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts have decided to bring in former Kansas City Chiefs tight end Ross Travis to deal with Eric Ebron’s injury.
The Indianapolis Colts are trying to deal with a major injury to their offense for the stretch run as they try to stay afloat in the AFC South race. In the wake of losing tight end Eric Ebron, a familiar face to Kansas City Chiefs fans has resurfaced in the form of Ross Travis.
Colts beat writer Mike Chappell has word that the Colts have signed Travis to hold down Ebron’s spot on the roster. The Colts lost Ebron to injured reserve for the rest of the season after the team learned he needed surgery on both ankles after dealing with pain for the last few weeks—going back to Week 9.
Travis is familiar to Chiefs fans as a former basketball-player-turned-tight-end experiment with John Dorsey as general manager. Travis could never rise above Demetrius Harris on the depth chart, but he was able to stick around with the Chiefs for the better part of three years after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2015.
Chris Ballard, the Colts GM, was familiar with Travis during his days as a Chiefs executive and he’s been in orbit around the Colts ever since. He made the active roster but was lost for the season due to injury last year and was on the verge of making this year’s roster before missing out on the active roster at preseason’s end.
In 23 career games, Travis has only 10 catches for 91 total yards. He also hasn’t played a single snap of football in the regular season since the 2017 season. It’ll be interesting to see how the Colts use him now.
