In the latest round of 2020 NFL mocks that have been released, the Kansas City Chiefs are linked to Wisconsin OL Tyler Biadasz and more.

It’s been a few weeks since we’ve looked around the various mock drafts released by various outlets obsessed with the 2020 NFL Draft, so we thought we’d take a look at how analysts thought the draft’s first round might fall—and what it might mean for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Through the halfway point of the season, opinions about the Chiefs have changed considerably in a few categories. Some mock drafts have them picking much earlier than expected, even as soon as No. 23 overall. That would be the worst possible outcome given that the Chiefs would likely be one-and-done in the playoffs with Patrick Mahomes at the helm.

The needs of the Chiefs have also changed just a bit for those paying attention. Cornerback was the emergency position of need in the past. The need is certainly still there, but the idea of only Charvarius Ward and Rashad Fenton under contract at the position next year suddenly looks a bit more capable of filling important slots than they did in the preseason.

The Chiefs still need a corner, to be sure, but injuries and exposed needs in other places could give Brett Veach pause on automatically aiming for a first round cornerback. In fact, CBS Sports has the Chiefs thinking about firming up an offensive front that’s been beset by injuries and a lower ceiling this year after losing Mitch Morse at center.

Here’s what Josh Edwards of CBS Sports had to say:

Tyler Biadasz, OL, Wisconsin – CBS Sports

"Kansas City’s offensive line has been somewhat exposed this season. Injuries have forced them to rotate their lineup. Biadasz can’t cover receivers but he can replace Mitch Morse."

Our take: He’s been a stud anchor for years in the center of one of the country’s best offensive fronts. Strong as an ox and can generally impose his will on interior defenders. Should make an easy leap to the next level as a center with a high floor and ceiling. In short, we love the pick at a point of need. Even with injuries, the Chiefs feel soft up front.

After Biadasz, two more draft analysts picked a certain Gator defensive back to help the Chiefs out:

C.J. Henderson, CB, Florida – Walter Football

"The Chiefs have a big weakness at cornerback. They had to wait a year to upgrade that position, given that the 2019 NFL Draft class was weak at corner. C.J. Henderson has good height (6-1), but needs to bulk up. He had four interceptions as a freshman. He has some great potential as a former four-star recruit."

C.J. Henderson, CB, Florida – CBS Sports

"Henderson can play anywhere, and the Chiefs must add more secondary reinforcement via the draft while Patrick Mahomes is still on his rookie deal."

Our take: It’s impossible to argue with this. After the 2019 season is over, it’s going to be Fenton in the slot and Ward on the outside. That gives the Chiefs both low depth and a low ceiling. What’s needed here in a major way is an impact corner who can be around for years. The best way to address that need is by drafting one early.

Jordan Reid of the Draft Network has his eye on a different corner, namely A.J. Terrell from Clemson.

A.J. Terrell, CB, Clemson – Draft Network

"The Chiefs defense has consistently attempted to overhaul its personnel and while there were plenty of positive additions, the unit still lacks talent at cornerback. A.J. Terrell is an intriguing press-man corner that has lots of intriguing traits that will help him succeed on the next level. His versatility to play both inside and out could help him become an instant impact type of contributor in a secondary that needs lots of help."

Our take: Again, cornerback is just fine with us at this point. Terrell is particularly disruptive and his physical traits and experience with one of the country’s best defenses should allow him to slide in successfully on the outside early in his career.
