The Kansas City Chiefs fall further behind the Indianapolis Colts in the playoff seeding following the loss to the Green Bay Packers.

The expectations were anything but high going into Week 8 as the Kansas City Chiefs hosted the Green Bay Packers. Without the reigning MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes, it was hard to imagine getting a win against the Packers. On top of that, the team was without other major pieces including defensive linemen Frank Clark and Chris Jones, offensive linemen Eric Fisher and Andrew Wylie, and cornerback Kendall Fuller.

The injuries continued to pile on over the course of the game Sunday night. Cornerback Bashaud Breeland left with a shoulder injury for a period of time but was able to come back later—though you could tell that his shoulder was in pain. Defensive end Alex Okafor and right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif both left the game with ankle injuries.

There were some positives from the loss to the Packers on Sunday. Despite the number of injuries that the Chiefs have suffered, they lost by only seven. The defense was able to keep after quarterback Aaron Rodgers for most of the game. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, for the second week in a row, was calling designed blitz packages to get his linebackers after the quarterback.

Many fans have been upset with the defense and calling for Spagnuolo’s head up until the Denver game. Now, fans are getting to see what the defense looks like when the team plays Spagnuolo’s style of defense which is aggressive. Nearly their entire defensive line was out of the game once Okafor went down and they were without a starting cornerback yet still were able to hold the Packers to 24 points. That’s a major progression from a few weeks ago.

While it was impressive what the team was able to do without Mahomes and other key components, this loss still puts them further away from the Indianapolis Colts and the two seed. Let’s take a look at the rest of the AFC.
