RASHAAD PENNY, Running Back
Let the Twitter outrage begin. Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny tops off my bargain bin wishlist for Kansas City. The former first-round pick has been fading into obscurity in Seattle behind Chris Carson and C.J. Prosise has nearly twice as many snaps in relief.
Penny is a big back at 5’11, 220 pounds with plus athleticism and a well-developed jump cut. He has starter level talent lacking an opportunity to start. It’s not that Penny has been bad; Chris Carson has just been really good.
Penny had a standout college career at San Diego State. While it was a surprise when Seattle drafted Penny in the 1st round, that shouldn’t detract from his ability. Penny ran at 4.46 second time in the 40-yard dash and drew comparisons to Willis McGahee.
The Chiefs could offer a conditional mid round pick for the former 1st round back and get a 23-year-old running back with 3.5 years of control, a trade benefiting both teams. This would also allow Kansas City to cut ties with Damien Williams, who seems to have disappeared from the offense.
