Ryan Hunter rejoins Kansas City Chiefs on practice squad

The Kansas City Chiefs were able to retain the services of offensive lineman Ryan Hunter after he went unclaimed in waivers on Thursday.
Offensive lineman Ryan Hunter has rejoined the Kansas City Chiefs after being set free earlier this week on the waiver wire. The Chiefs decided to release Hunter in search of better talent along the offensive front, although they clearly were interested in retaining his services by bringing him back on the team’s practice squad.
Hunter has been with the Chiefs since shortly after the 2018 NFL Draft when he signed with the team as an undrafted free agent. He turned heads with his frame and stood out among his rookie peers enough to not only stay with the team through training camp but also sign on the practice squad for last year.
Hunter seemed to take a leap forward this past offseason after he not only stayed with the team again but made the active roster. From there, it looked as if Hunter would be able to step in as a primary backup for a team that had lost Jordan Devey in free agency to the Oakland Raiders. However in his first bit of real action this season, Hunter looked about as bad as a lineman can look in the team’s recent loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
Hunter now joins the team’s practice squad where he can continue to develop. The Chiefs replaced him on the active roster with the signing of veteran offensive lineman Stefen Wisniewski, an eight-year veteran who initially entered the NFL with the Oakland Raiders.
