Who will lose their Chiefs roster spot to Morris Claiborne?

What remains to be seen is how Veach will make room for Morris Claiborne. Unfortunately for one current Chiefs player, his time is up in Kansas City (for now).

The plan appears to have worked. The Chiefs successfully made it through the first quarter of the NFL season with just four cornerbacks on the active roster. Bashaud Breeland, Kendall Fuller, and Charvarius Ward have taken almost every defensive snap while rookie Rashad Fenton has played a few special teams snaps in a reserve role.

While much has been said about the quality of cornerback play at Arrowhead, the low quantity has allowed Brett Veach and Andy Reid to tinker with player depth at other positions.

A few places where the team has a surplus:

  • Carrying four running backs has proven to be a good move, as starter Damien Williams has been injured for much of the season and Reid has implemented all three reserves in different situations.
  • The offensive line room doesn’t have any empty seats, as the team currently rosters eleven players on the line.
  • The safety group is comprised of five players, and all five have been active for each game but one.

This week, free agent signee Morris Claiborne comes off his four-game suspension and should add a moderate veteran boost to the cornerback group. What remains to be seen is how Veach will make room for Claiborne. Unfortunately for one current Chiefs player, his time is up in Kansas City. (For now, at least. Just ask C.J. Spiller.)

Here are a few cut candidates.
