The Detroit Lions had a significant name pop up on the final injury report in Matthew Stafford before Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Detroit Lions are already going to have a difficult time keeping up with the Kansas City Chiefs offense on Sunday in Week 4, but things might be considerably more difficult without quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Stafford was included on the injury report as questionable with a hip injury in practice on Friday, per NFL reporter Ian Rapoport.
Stafford has enjoyed a nice season so far for the Lions, who are undefeated at 2-0-1, but the Chiefs present a major test for Detroit at home at Ford Field. If Stafford is unable to go, then the Lions would likely turn to Jeff Driskel or David Blough on their depth chart. Neither would strike fear in any defensive coordinator’s heart.
The Lions have already ruled out defensive lineman Mike Daniels for the team’s Week 4 game, and now Stafford is one of a few questionable players on the team’s injury report. Cornerback Darius Slay has a hamstring injury. Wide receiver Danny Amendola has a chest concern, and Da’Shawn Hand was limited in practice this week with an elbow injury.
Stafford hasn’t missed a single game since the 2010 season when he missed most of the year due to injury, putting in an impressive ironman streak of 131 consecutive starts during the regular season.
While the injury report says he is questionable, the idea that Stafford would actually miss this game is a longshot. If Stafford was out, that’s one thing, but being questionable means that things could go either way and the importance of having him under center is too great. It would be a major shock for everyone if Stafford is forced to sit out.
The Chiefs and Lions kick off at 12:00 p.m. C.T.
