My Prediction: Chiefs 42, Lions 24

In the end, the Chiefs will simply be too much for the Lions to handle on Sunday. Reid is in a groove, Mahomes is playing at a level above his MVP season, players heretofore unproductive or unknown are making crazy catches or repeatedly catching long bombs. This offense is practically unstoppable, and they still aren’t at full power. That’s a scary thought.

On the other side, the defense is improving. They still have yet to play great all the way through, but for three quarters last Sunday they slowed down one of the hottest offenses in the league. If it weren’t for a few lucky plays, the defense would have walked away from one of its best games in some time even if they did give up good production on the ground.

I expect both these factors to improve on Sunday against the Lions. The Lions are a good team, they really are. They’ve beaten two teams with a lot of talent, and would be undefeated if it weren’t for a lackadaisical end to their game against the Arizona Cardinals.

That said, their defense will be unable to stop the Chiefs offense. Because of all the factors mentioned earlier in the article I could see the Chiefs hanging 48 points on this team. To the ire of Chiefs fans, if the Chiefs get a big lead I also wouldn’t be surprised if Reid packs it up midway through the third quarter like he did against Baltimore. It makes sense, you don’t want to show your good stuff if you don’t have to.

The only question will be how our defense handles the Lions offense. As I said, I think this will be the most difficult test for our secondary. The Lions have multiple challenging receivers that have all shown the ability to take over a game. Even still, I don’t think this will be enough for them to hang with the Chiefs. As we’ve done with our other three opponents, the Chiefs offense will score quickly and make the Lions offense one dimensional. This will allow our pass rushers to peel their ears back and take some pressure off of the secondary.
