This win keeps the Chiefs in the driver’s seat in the AFC

While the Chiefs would certainly have time to overcome an early season loss, this win was big in terms of where the Chiefs stand in the AFC. The New England Patriots are now 3-0 and, had the Chiefs lost to the Ravens, they would have been a game behind the leaders in the conference with a head-to-head loss to one of the teams and a formidable game at New England still to come. Again, it’s certainly possible that the Chiefs could have climbed out of that early hole, but its certainly better that they don’t have to.

Now the Ravens are no longer in the driver’s seat for a first round bye going forward. The Chiefs also kept their stranglehold on the AFC West intact.

The Chiefs came into the season as one of the two main threats in the AFC to win the Super Bowl (along with the Patriots) and this win maintains that position. The Chiefs next four games are now at the Detroit Lions, then at home against the Indianapolis Colts, at home against the Houston Texans, and then at the Denver Broncos. The Chiefs should be favored in all four of those games and should have a chance to put some distance between them and some of the other teams in the AFC.

It may not have been pretty at times, but this was a great win for the Chiefs. They responded to the Ravens attempt to bully them. The defensive coverage was improved. The offense kept rolling at a historic pace despite the injuries, and the Chiefs are well positioned in the AFC to get to where they want to go.

So what do you think Chiefs fans? Do you agree that this was an important win for the Chiefs for several reasons? Were you happy with the game overall? I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments below.
