Why the Kansas City Chiefs win over the Baltimore Ravens was so important
The offense proved it can just keep rolling
The Kansas City Chiefs offense looks like the best unit in the NFL and I’m not sure it’s close. The Chiefs offense was without their star wide receiver, their starting left tackle, and (technically) their starting running back, and they still looked like the best offense in the NFL without them. That has to give the other 31 NFL teams nightmares.
The Chiefs are averaging 33.7 points and 487 yards per game through three games and two of those games were supposed to be against two of the better defenses that they would face all season. That means that through three games they are on pace to put up almost 1,000 more yards on the season than they did last year when they led the NFL with 425.6 yards per game. It bears repeating that those numbers have come against some good defensive teams and with several key offensive players out with injury. That’s staggering.
I know at this point it almost doesn’t need to be said, but Mahomes is simply on another level. I know the sample size is small and I know that ultimately he hasn’t accomplished anything that really matters yet, but I really believe he may be the best quarterback I have ever seen. It’s ridiculous. He’s on pace to throw for 6,373 yards with 53 touchdowns and ZERO interceptions with 71.9% completions and a 10.5 yards per attempt average.
I just don’t know what else can be said about him. He’s amazing. I have to pinch myself sometimes when I’m watching him to make sure this is real life.
Head coach Andy Reid deserves his share of the credit too. It hasn’t mattered who was out there personnel wise, he just keeps dialing up plays that utilizes all the weapons that Mahomes has at his disposal. I have no idea how an opposing defensive coordinator even tries to come up with a plan to defend them.
Finally, this win keeps the Chiefs where they need to be in the standings.
