It’s hard to believe but the Kansas City Chiefs have a two game lead in the AFC West after just three weeks of the regular season is in the books.

If you’re a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, the 2019 season is already beginning to play out like some sort of sports-oriented fairy tale. Not only are the Chiefs themselves undefeated despite weathering a number of injuries, but their hated rivals are all falling like dominoes. In fact, after only three weeks of the regular season in the books, the Chiefs already hold a two-game lead.

It feels a bit weird to type even that much considering how tight the race for a division crown has been in years past. This year, the West was supposed to be tighter than ever. The Denver Broncos imported a new quarterback and held onto defensive pieces from their Super Bowl days to go with new prospects like Noah Fant and Dalton Risner. The Raiders were younger and faster and deeper after adding three first round picks. The Chargers were going to continue to play the role of hopeful spoiler to it all as the primary competition.

Three weeks in, the AFC West is a complete mess outside of Kansas City. The Raiders never even put up a fight against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, and the Green Bay Packers rolled over the Denver Broncos. With the losses, both teams sunk even deeper in the division and failed to make good on any preseason hopes—at least in the season’s early going.

Meanwhile, the Chargers are a mysterious 1-2 team after losing to the Houston Texans on Sunday afternoon. In fact, if not for Adam Vinatieri‘s kicking woes in Week 1, the Chargers could easily be winless on the year. There’s a lot of football left, and the Chargers will be getting a lot of pieces back over time that are now out due to injury, but it could be too little too late.
