Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson named NFL’s offensive players of the week

The NFL named their offensive players of the Week for the second week of the season and Patrick Mahomes and Russell Wilson took home the honors.
It didn’t take long for Patrick Mahomes to start collecting another round of honors and accolades in a new season. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback earned his first Offensive Player of the Week award in 2019 in Week 2 after putting up four passing touchdowns in a win over the Oakland Raiders.
The Chiefs sit alone at the top of their division through only two games after dealing the Raiders their first loss of the season on Sunday. The Chiefs were down 10-0 to a surprisingly competitive Raiders team that’s looked much better early in 2019 than all of last season. However, Mahomes and the Chiefs went to work shortly thereafter and set records in a second quarter that featured a 28-point surge before halftime.
It wasn’t a contest from there.
Mahomes finished with 30 completions on 44 attempts for 443 passing yards and the aforementioned 4 touchdowns. He now has 7 touchdowns on the year without a single interception as he follows up an MVP campaign in his first year as a starting quarterback—a year in which he had 50 touchdowns and 5,000 passing yards. Mahomes just celebrated his 24th birthday on Tuesday and has already cemented himself as arguably the best quarterback in the NFL.
Russ Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks took home the award for the NFC after putting up an impressive performance on the road against the winless Pittsburgh Steelers. Wilson finished with 300 passing yards and 3 touchdowns himself in close road victory. Like the Chiefs, the Seahawks are also undefeated so far.
