The Kansas City Chiefs might be dealing with an ankle injury to running back LeSean McCoy pending MRI results on Monday.

The Kansas City Chiefs have taken a few hits via injury to their high-powered offense and another player might be among the ranks going into Week 3, depending on how running back LeSean McCoy’s MRI results turn out.

The Chiefs newest halfback reportedly injured his ankle late in the team’s Week 2 win over the Oakland Raiders, says NFL reporter Ian Rapoport. The injury, per Rapoport, didn’t appear to be serious but an MRI has been scheduled for Monday to confirm the severity of the injury one way or another.

The loss of McCoy would leave the Chiefs a bit less versatile and explosive out of the backfield, at least given the results so far on the season. Damien Williams was given an offseason extension and was shouldered with the starter’s mantle during the offseason, but so far he’s proven ineffective as a rusher, albeit in a small sample size. Williams has 22 carries on the year for 34 rushing yards. McCoy has 1 less carry for 104 rushing yards.

Fortunately, Williams has been much more successful catching passes out of the backfield, which is more at home with his long-term scatback roles for the Dolphins. Williams has 87 receiving yards on 9 catches including a 32-yard catch against Oakland.

Next. Are the Chiefs too dependent upon Mahomes?. dark

McCoy was signed just before the season began after he was surprisingly released by the Buffalo Bills. McCoy, who is now 31 years old, played his first four years in the NFL with Andy Reid and wanted to play for a contender.
