My Prediction: A trade for Patrick Peterson

I get it. Some of you are going to complain about beating a dead horse, and Peterson is old, and the Cardinals won’t trade him, and yada yada yada. The truth is, out of all of these trade scenarios this makes absolutely the most sense.

Peterson is by far the best corner on this list, and it might not even be that close. He’s still one of the best in the league and Spagnuolo could put him all by himself on an island and he would perform just fine. That would be a factor the Chiefs haven’t had since… I can’t remember. Marcus Peters was never that, as much as some people want to remember him that way. He had great ball skills in space, but he was never a lockdown corner.

Arizona has a new coaching staff, and Peterson wasn’t one of the guys they brought in. Yes, he’s super talented. However, coaching staffs take huge steps to bring in the guys that they want to bring in, and given his recent suspension, he might not be on that list. He also doesn’t want to be there. Despite the responses he’s given after his initial displays of unhappiness, it’s clear the Cardinals are walking on thin ice when it comes to Peterson. He wants to win a ring and has barely sniffed being competitive enough in his career.

I hate to say it, but I don’t see that changing with a coach like Kingsbury. No disrespect to him, but he has to be successful on a major level before we can truly crown him the next great offensive mind. That’s just how it works and I can guarantee Peterson feels the same way.

Peterson is the best option, and it’s possible that he might not even be that expensive. Because he is a little older, the Chiefs might be able to snag him for a second round pick, and maybe a later round pick. If the discussion is anywhere in that ballpark, this trade is a no brainer. I think it will be, and I think the Chiefs will get a deal done for him.
