Former Chiefs Herb Miller, Dino Boyd try out for Jets

The New York Jets tried out a couple of former Kansas City Chiefs players as they prepared their roster for the regular season.
A couple of former Kansas City Chiefs who were released during preseason roster cuts on Saturday received a second chance to make an impression with the New York Jets this week.
Aaron Wilson is reporting that the Jets worked out a total of six players on Wednesday, including a pair of familiar faces in cornerback Herb Miller and offensive lineman Dino Boyd. Both Miller and Boyd showed up strong for the Chiefs at various points in the preseason.
For Miller, his inconsistencies in Chiefs practices and games negated the big plays he also seemed to make at various points. It’s frustrating since he obviously has the requisite athleticism and skill set to play the position at a high level, and the Chiefs are rather thin at the position overall. Having at least one of their youngest players break through would have been a major relief to this roster.
For Boyd, the Chiefs were likely just too deep up front for Boyd to stand out, but it was a bit of a surprise to see him not on the practice squad. The team kept Jimmy Murray on the P.S. while also carrying 10 men on the active roster. There was simply too much talent, especially after signing Jeff Allen and trading for Martinas Rankin, for Boyd to make it.
The Jets have not announced any moves based on the tryouts but that doesn’t mean a deal won’t be coming. The others to try out include cornerback Terrell Bonds, defensive back Jay Liggins, cornerback Trae Elston and offensive lineman Brandon Hitner.
