Former Chiefs corner Orlando Scandrick will visit Houston Texans

Former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Orlando Scandrick is visiting with the Houston Texans on Monday, per Aaron Wilson.
Former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Orlando Scandrick is spending the Labor Day weekend looking for a new home for the 2019 season, which begins in short order. The good news is that he’s procured a visit with the Houston Texans, who could use some help in the secondary.
NFL reporter Aaron Wilson stated Scandrick will spend Monday with the Texans as Bill O’Brien and company continue to remake the team before their opening game against the New Orleans Saints.
Scandrick was a one-year rental with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018, much like Morris Claiborne or Bashaud Breeland for this year’s pass defense. Scandrick was a veteran who joined the Chiefs on a short-term deal hoping to shore up one of the starting boundary spots in Bob Sutton’s defense.
Scandrick looked the part early on, but eventually he lost his spot to a developmental prospect in Charvarius Ward, an undrafted rookie free agent who joined the Chiefs on a preseason trade at the eleventh hour before roster cuts were due.
Scandrick was benched late in the season, but Pro Football Focus gave him solid marks on the season and it’s clear he has enough in the tank to give depth and decent play for another team in the secondary.
The Philadelphia Eagles signed Scandrick earlier this offseason and Mike Garafolo reports that it’s possible he could return there later this season—perhaps even as soon as Week 2, when veteran deals are no longer guaranteed.
Scandrick had 44 tackles, 13 batted passes, and a single interception in 15 games (seven starts) for the Chiefs.
