The Kansas City Chiefs will be without De’Anthony Thomas for the first game of the season after learning of his one game suspension.

On Saturday, the Kansas City Chiefs finally learned the extent of any punishment for wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas after he was arrested this offseason on suspicion of marijuana possession and drug paraphernalia possession.

Thomas will be forced to sit out a single game, the first of the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars, per Nate Taylor of The Athletic. The suspension gives the Chiefs an extra roster spot to use for the first week before being forced to add Thomas and cut another player heading into their game against Oakland in Week 2.

Thomas was recently added this preseason after Marcus Kemp was lost for the season at wide receiver. Gehrig Dieter has also been injured for much of the team’s training camp, so general manager Brett Veach made the move to bring back DAT for another season.

Thomas has been praised for his work on special teams units for the Chiefs and assistant head coach Dave Toub over the years. Unfortunately he also re-fractured his leg last October after doing the same the year before. If he can stay healthy, he provides the team with a well-rounded offensive player who can also help on special teams.

The Chiefs fourth round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft under GM John Dorsey. He played in 55 games for the Chiefs as a rarely used offensive player. He has 64 total carries for 503 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns.
