After a couple of days of observing Kansas City Chiefs training camp here are ten takeaways heading into the first preseason game.

The Kansas City Chiefs are now over a week into their 2019 training camp in Saint Joseph, Missouri. This past Friday and Saturday I made my annual trek up from Wichita, Kansas to watch a couple of days of practice.

Armed with a list of players and positions that I wanted to see in person, I walked away with several key takeaways. With the first preseason game now less than a week away, I think there are a few things we now know about this year’s roster—or at least know we need to take a closer look at when the Chiefs play this Saturday.

Before I get into my takeaways from camp, let me put a little bit of a qualifier on them. NFL teams frequently try different guys out during camp. What I mean by that is you could go to camp on just one day and see “Player A” running with the second team ahead of someone everyone thought was higher on the depth chart. You could then jump to the conclusion that “Player A” has now moved to second on the depth chart. However, if you went to camp the very next day it could be somebody else running with the second team and “Player A” is back with the third string. Things are fluid this time of year as the coaching staff tries different guys out to see how they respond.

That having been said, between reading camp reports from over a full week of practice and then watching two days of practice back-to-back, I feel like some things are coming into focus a little. That doesn’t mean they can’t change based on how players perform in the preseason games, but I do think there are some spots where the Chiefs have shown their hand a little on how they see the depth chart shaping up this season. I think there are some spots where maybe there isn’t the competition we thought there would be and other spots where things may still be pretty open.

Let’s jump into my 10 takeaways from Chiefs training camp starting with the one that jumped out the most from the moment practice started on Friday.
