Kansas City Chiefs fullback Anthony Sherman is memorable in so many ways, but his memorable USA outfits are perhaps the most notable aspect of his presence on the team.

Happy July 4th, everyone! Given the hole in our hearts created by the lack of Ricky Stanzi on the Kansas City Chiefs active roster this time of year, we turn our red, white, and blue hearts and minds to the next closest thing we have to an American patriot on the roster: Anthony Sherman.

We’ve already reflected back this week on the brilliant trade that brought him to K.C. in the first place, but what we failed to cover properly was the reason he’s such a Team USA standout: his outfits.

If you’ve somehow missed out or forgotten, Sherman’s tendency is to show up in style to Chiefs training camp (or other places) over the years. While you and I might be embarrassed to be seen in public (or even in private) wearing some of the clothes Sherman wears, the reality is that he rocks every ounce of it—from the overalls to the leather vest to the wrestling onesie.

While we cannot help you with your cookouts or fireworks displays, we can at least remind you to have a moment of silence for Anthony Sherman’s past looks and honor them with a proper ranking of the ones we could find.

Here’s our top three fashion moments for Anthony Sherman:

3. The Look: Denim to Win ‘Em

The beauty of this outfit is in its simplicity. It took us several sentences, even paragraphs, to describe everything else going on in other outfits, but the reality is sometimes it’s worth keeping it simple. Here it’s a pair of (assumed) Caterpillar boots and a pair of sweet denim overalls. That’s it.

Sherman showed up to training camp in 2016 in this outfit, one that was likely inspired by the great Vince Wilfork from the previous year when he showed up the same way on Hard Knocks in 2015.

This is the outfit that put Sherman on our fashion watch every year coming into training camp, a day-to-night workmanlike look that would be just as comfortable baling hay or working on a tractor as he would be heading into Chiefs training camp. And if he wanted to moonlight as a personal dancer, he wouldn’t even have to change clothes. We love it. We love him.

2. The Look: Vest to Impress

There’s so much to love here that it’s hard to make this number two—until you see the top ensemble. Sherman came to training camp in 2017 wearing the most American mix possible of leather and ripped denim. It’s the jorts and boots. It’s the leather vest with nothing underneath, adorned with USA. It’s the patch reading “BORN WILD STILL WILD” next to the cross necklace.

All of the above puts every other Chiefs player to shame, but then Sherman punctuates it all with a red, white, and blue headband that draws the eye to the most Redneck Mad Max hairdo ever. It’s like the tank of a fullback dipped his head in a cauldron reading “BADASS” on the side before he left the house.

Of all of the outfits we’ve seen Sherman in, this is the one most likely to get him cast opposite Jean-Claude Van Damme or Dolph Lundren in  a memorable ’80s action flick.

1. The Look: America the Beautiful

Sherman puts the single in singlet with this leotard(?) made by Betsy Ross herself—as in he is the single person on this planet who could pull this look off.

It’s hard to identify the most inspired part of this outfit, since a single glimpse causes my hand to involuntarily move toward my heart. It keeps the Constitution ever before me, even as I question my own constitution to not faint from the sight of it all.

Which part is the best? Is it the weathered hat? Is it the eagle over the crotch that screams confidence? Is it the matching socks and shoes? The slight “Don’t Tread On Me” on the backside? I wouldn’t be surprised if Lee Greenwood automatically starts singing every time Sherman puts this on.

(Confession: I broke down and bought one of these after seeing Sherman in it last summer. I’ve only worn it once because it felt so strangely powerful, but in a single day I baked three fruit pies, improved my marksmanship, ordered everything medium rare, and was automatically teleported to the Grand Canyon for a good 10 minutes.)
