Andy Heck Does a Heckuva Job

Last week, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif spoke with reporters about his return from injury and the Chiefs offseason. In his comments, he praised Chiefs offensive line coach Andy Heck for preparing linemen to be versatile and ready when the time comes.

Heck’s ability to keep the Chiefs well-stocked after numerous player exits year after year is a real gift for the team. The Chiefs have lost several versatile linemen over the years, yet the team continues to enjoy nice performances on the spot from backup guys who are truly ready to be the next man up.

From Jeff Allen to Zach Fulton and Jah Reid to Jordan Devey, the Chiefs have enjoyed a nice run of versatile linemen and these current youngsters will be trusted to do the same. Allegretti already comes with the ability to play all over the interior, and there’s little doubt that McKenzie and Murray are learning the same. Abdul Beecham and Zack Golditch are the newest imports who will be tasked with the same learning curve. It’s all part of being a member of the Chiefs active roster.

Heck has already proven his acumen to coach up anybody and everybody, so there’s no need to fear if the Chiefs lose another sub or two. You might not know their names now, but when they hit the line-up, they will be ready all the same.
