September 6, 1998 – Chiefs vs. Raiders

The first game of the 1998 season, when DT was a 10 year vet and 31 years old, made everyone in the world believe that the somewhat mediocre (by his standards) ’97 season was an anomaly and that Thomas still had plenty of years of All Pro football left in him.

Well, they were wrong, but the game sure gave them reason to believe it. Hosting the rival Raiders in Week 1 meant we were going to see the best that DT had to offer, and we did.

In total, Thomas ended the game with six sacks of Jeff George, and the rest of the team would add four more, The Chiefs also held Oakland to no touchdowns and forced seven fumbles in the game, recovering five of them.

In addition to his six sacks, Thomas caused a safety, forced one of those fumbles, and had nine solo tackles in the game.
