November 11, 1990 – Chiefs vs. Seahawks

There was never really any doubt where we were going with this one. Derrick Thomas’ record-setting 7 sack game against the Seattle Seahawks is still one of the most incredible athletic performances I have ever seen. The record still stands today, nearly 30 years later.

Thomas was a man possessed in the game, and no one from Seattle could stop him. He forced a fumble in the game, but was also in the backfield on nearly every play from scrimmage.

Despite the record, Thomas would say after the game, “I thought I had him, He just stumbled back and caught his balance and threw the pass. That last sack I didn’t get is the one I’m going to remember.” See, it was the one that got away that cost the Chiefs the victory, and that’s all Derrick wanted to say about it.

Seahawks QB Dave Krieg has said more, indicating he was enamored with Thomas’ performance.

Derrick Thomas’ #58 is retired by the Kansas City Chiefs. He is a Chiefs Hall of Famer, an NFL Hall of Famer, and a legend that should never be forgotten. The Chiefs were blessed to draft him in 1989; and devastated to lose him in 2000.
