Former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Nate Orchard will reportedly sign a deal with the Miami Dolphins after a successful workout for the team.

The Miami Dolphins have added a bit more competition at outside linebacker with the signing of veteran linebacker Nate Orchard. Orchard played for the Kansas City Chiefs as well as a few other teams in recent years and now hopes to find a longer-term home in south Florida.

Per Barry Jackson, Orchard reportedly worked out for the Dolphins on Wednesday and was expected to sign on the spot. The linebacker was recently released by the Seattle Seahawks just a few days ago in early May after signing with the team before the 2019 NFL Draft. Orchard was deemed expendable after the Seahawks drafted Utah linebacker Cody Barton in the third round and Washington linebacker Ben Burr-Kiven in the fifth round.

Orchard last played for the Kansas City Chiefs during the regular season, a short one-game stint in 2018 that came during a four-week stretch. Coming into the Patriots contest in mid-October, the Chiefs were hurting at linebacker with potential injury concerns for Justin Houston, Dee Ford, and Tanoh Kpassagnon–at least on the surface. The Chiefs quickly signed Orchard and Frank Zombo to bolster the roster at outside linebacker.

Orchard entered the NFL with the Cleveland Browns as a second round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Utah. He lasted three full seasons in Cleveland before being released just before the start of the 2018 regular season. Orchard is still only 26 and offers a bit of pass rushing depth for the Dolphins along with special teams experience.
