Round 2 – Pick 56 – Mecole Hardman – WR – Georgia

Anticipated impact as a rookie: 6.4
Long term upside: 8.3
Overall excitement for the pick: 7.4

Mecole Hardman didn’t receive bad scores overall from the staff but the general consensus seems to be that while he has good long term upside he needs some time to develop. That kept his scores for making an impact as a rookie down a little. I also think the fact that the Chiefs had to give up a 5th round pick to move up and take Hardman may have had a slight effect on the overall excitement level of the pick.

"Hardman has incredible speed, but has a lot to learn about being a receiver in the NFL. Using his frame to his advantage would immediately improve his game. While I understand the move, so much will depend on his development as a receiver that it is hard to be elated with the pick. -Grant Tuttle"

"As much as Kansas City insists Hardman wasn’t taken to replace Tyreek Hill, he absolutely was. That’s not to say that Hardman was a reach but it’s hard to believe Kansas City had Hardman ranked over some of the other players on the board. -Thomas Welte"

My two cents: I like this pick and think it has Andy Reid written all over it. I don’t know that there will ever be another Tyreek Hill but Mecole Hardman had probably the closest profile to Hill’s when he came out of college as any player in this draft. In Hill’s rookie season he had just under 600 yards receiving with 6 touchdowns and then added another three touchdowns on kick/punt returns. I think that would be a much better bar to measure Hardman to this season as opposed to Hill’s numbers from last season.
