Tyrann Mathieu made it clear on Twitter that he’d like to see a fellow Louisiana State alumnus join him in the Chiefs secondary.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a vocal new leader on and off the field in the secondary with the addition this offseason of former Louisiana State University star Tyrann Mathieu. Now the safety is making it clear he’d love for the Chiefs to draft a fellow Tiger to join him in the secondary.

In the upcoming 2019 NFL Draft, the Chiefs are likely going to add some competition at both cornerback and safety as it is, given the need for more talent and depth at both positions. Mathieu made it clear that he’d approve of any addition that brings in Greedy Williams, a cornerback projected for the middle of the first  round in most mock drafts.

Mathieu tweeted the following this weekend:

Williams responded:

No one will argue that Williams wouldn’t be a dynamic addition to the Chiefs. He’s one of the draft’s top overall corners and he’s also expected to be long gone by the time the Chiefs pick at No. 29 overall. Even to move up for him would be cost prohibitive given the team’s other needs, but should he somehow slide, the Chiefs would certainly have to discuss it.

That said, it’s interesting the Chiefs never once checked in with Williams at any known point—the NFL Combine, pro day, personal visit. Are the Chiefs not interested in his fit? Are they just assuming they won’t get the chance? Do they already have all they need on him? It’s impossible to tell until draft day.

Williams, who won’t turn 22 until December, was an all-SEC First Team performer over the last two seasons and there’s good reason to believe his best football is still far ahead of him.
