Authorities have charged Dwyan Morgan—real name—with a fine and potential prison time for shining a laser pointer at Tom Brady during the AFC Championship.

We feel weird even posting about this story for a number of reasons.

First, no one wants to remember the AFC Championship game in the first place. Every time Clark Hunt wants to change overtime, it’s a reminder of the Chiefs loss. Every time Patrick Mahomes takes questions, he’s asked again about the Chiefs loss. It was likely a good thing for our sanity the team traded Dee Ford so we didn’t have to hear any more questions or quotes about the offsides call. Why? Because it’s all about the Chiefs loss.

The loss to which we’re referring, in case you live under a proverbial rock, is the heartbreaking loss to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game. It was a thrilling game complete with late Patrick Mahomes heroics, of course, that ultimately ended in defeat when Brady and company won the overtime coin toss and subsequently marched right over Bob Sutton’s defensive scheme.

One oft-forgotten incident from the game (again, because the whole game is oft-forgotten) was the whole laser pointer moment. Specifically, someone in the stands at Arrowhead Stadium (ugh, I can’t believe we had home field advantage for the AFC title) decided to shine a laser pointer at Brady while he was trying to lead the Pats down the field.

After the game, the NFL made it clear they would investigate the matter and the Chiefs were vocal about wanting to be tough on the fan who did this. When authorities discovered the fan’s identity, they withheld his name but did say that he was banned from Arrowhead.

Now it’s been made public record that the fan was a 64-year-old male named Dwyan Morgan from Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Per reports, he faces a $1,000 fine and up to a year in prison.

It’s our opinion that our tax dollars are better served elsewhere than forcing a man to sit in prison for something that’s only funny to third graders. That said, his stupidity has already ousted him from his favorite team’s stadium and if he has to pay a fine for it we are, well, fine with it. If anything, the potential for prison time and a hit to the pocketbook will hopefully stop any other potentially embarrassing fans in their tracks before, say, throwing snowballs at players.
