Pros for a Return: Eric Berry has been the face of this franchise ever since he was first drafted at No. 5 overall, and there’s not a single fan in Arrowhead who hasn’t been moved deeply by his courage, leadership, and devastating play on the field.

The Chiefs have already made the difficult part of this decision by releasing him, which means the financial picture has changed considerably. It would likely take a monumental effort on Berry’s part to get over any residual hurt or anger after being dropped by the Chiefs to come back again, but every fan in Chiefs Kingdom would love to see Berry as a part of this team in some form or another.

Could Berry return for less money? Would he be willing to? Have all bridges been burned? These aren’t questions easily answered by anyone but Berry himself.

Cons for a Return: Berry might be ready to move on after being released. The potential chip on his shoulder could motivate him to show what he’s got left with a brand new team. Then again, his health might preclude him from signing in K.C. or anywhere else for that matter.

Berry has already taken a free agent visit to the Dallas Cowboys and left without a deal. That’s to be expected until Berry has a better read on how he’s healing from this bone spur. He elected against surgery, so he’ll need time and rest to make sure he’s healthy and ready to play.

It’s a longshot to expect Berry in red and gold again, but a fan base can dream, right?
