The Kansas City Chiefs are hosting cornerback Joejuan Williams on Wednesday as they continue to look at cornerbacks for the upcoming draft.

The Kansas City Chiefs have brought in another cornerback for a private workout and visit before the 2019 NFL Draft with word that Vanderbilt’s Joejuan Williams is at Arrowhead Stadium on Wednesday.

The Chiefs are likely to pick up at least one cornerback in the upcoming draft, and they could do so at any level of their early round picks. The Chiefs have four of the first 100 selections in the draft, which means they could likely reach for a prospect at the position at any such tier.

Williams is often projected as a Day 2 pick, but it only takes one team to fall in love with a prospect in order to remove him from the board. Williams is very long at 6’4, 211 pounds, and he knows how to use it. However, he’s not nearly as fast or consistent as others in his draft class, so each team will have to rely on their own pro projections for Williams in their particular scheme.

The Chiefs need an influx of talent at the cornerback position, and selecting one or more players in the draft would help the short-term and long-term needs of this defense. Kendall Fuller and Bashaud Breeland are the only reliable corners on the team right now, although Charvarius Ward showed promise down the stretch in 2018. After this year, the Chiefs only have Ward and Tremon Smith under contract.

Williams had 61 tackles, 14 passes defended, and 4 interceptions for the Commodores last season and was named to the All-SEC team.
