2019 NFL mock draft: Kansas City Chiefs trade up in first round
By Grant Tuttle
Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens are going to do their absolute best to build around Lamar Jackson. If they want to give the young quarterback more time to throw the football, Andre Dillard fits the need. Baltimore would be wise to draft a pass-blocker that can help keep Jackson clean in the pocket, rather than drafting players to assist in the rushing attack.
Kansas City Chiefs TRADE UP (from Houston Texans)
Here it is. Brett Veach being aggressive. Clelin Ferrell is in the top tier of EDGE defenders and he definitely could be off the board at this time. If he is not still there, Kansas City may decide to stay put and take Charles Omenihu, or some other big defensive end that fits Steve Spagnuolo’s defense. That being said, Ferrell is a very talented player that can play the strongside or weakside position. For a team that values versatility in a 4-3 defense, Ferrell is a great fit in Kansas City.
Oakland Raiders
The Raiders need a defensive playmaker. They have had a poor defensive backfield for what seems like a decade. In order to fix their issues on the back end, Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden will likely value playmaking skills over everything else. For many, Thompson is the best safety in the draft. While inconsistent, he does possess very good ball skills.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles have an incredibly talented roster on paper. This may allow them to reach for a guy that they really like. Amani Oruwariye has turned a lot of heads this draft season with his great frame and physicality. For a team like the Eagles, Oruwariye can develop as the second or third guy and be an eventual Pro Bowler.
Indianapolis Colts
Hakeem Butler has been flying up draft boards for the last month. In my opinion, he is probably one of the most athletic players in the draft. For the Colts, giving Andrew Luck talent to work with is crucial. Butler on the opposite side of T.Y. Hilton along with Eric Ebron and Jack Doyle would make the Colts a very dangerous team on offense.
Oakland Raiders
According to many new mock drafts, Drew Lock is projected to go in the top 15. Call me skeptical, but I think Lock has a lot to work on before he becomes the quarterback of the future for any team that high in the draft. Lock has very good arm talent, but needs to work on his mechanics and fundamentals. I think that a Raiders team that’s’ rebuilding with a new young core on both sides of the ball would be an excellent landing spot for Drew Lock.
