The Kansas City Chiefs checked off one of their pre-draft visits on Thursday with the news that Tim Ward, a defensive end out of Old Dominion, spent some time with the team at Arrowhead on Thursday.
Each NFL team is allowed 30 prospect visits to their home stadium for a private workout before the NFL Draft. Those visits can allow a team to answer any final questions they have about someone questionable or to scout lesser known prospects for later rounds or even rookie free agents.
Ward is the latest to come in, per Eric Edholm, a defensive end prospect out of Old Dominion who had 41 tackles and 3.5 sacks last year.
The Chiefs are remaking their defensive front this offseason under new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Many moves have already been made to shift the talent at linebacker, especially outside, with the loss of Justin Houston and Dee Ford. Alex Okafor has been signed to bolster the end position, but general manager Brett Veach will undoubtedly address the position in the draft.
Ward has the sort of length preferred by Spagnuolo as a 6’5 end, and maybe the Chiefs liked what they saw at a recent regional combine. It will be telling if the Chiefs end up taking a flyer on Ward on draft weekend one way or another.
