Former Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry is reportedly set to make his first free agent visit with the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday.

It’s a strange feeling to report news of this sort here at Arrowhead Addict, but as they say, football is a business, and the latest evidence is found in the fact that Eric Berry will be visiting the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday.

It is Berry’s first free agent visit since his release from the Kansas City Chiefs after spending the last nine seasons in red and gold. Berry is now on the open market for the first time in his career and says he’s planning on being healthy and ready to play in 2019.

When healthy and at his best, Berry is without equal in the NFL as a versatile safety who does all things well. His dynamic play and leadership have made him a five-time Pro Bowler and winner of the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award in years past.

Unfortunately, Berry has had a difficult time staying healthy over the years and it’s likely those five Pro Bowls could be eight or nine at this point if only Berry could stay on the field. A torn Achilles tendon robbed him of the entire 2017 season, and a sore heel and bone spur kept him off the field until December of this past year, meaning Berry has only made 3 starts in the last 2 full seasons.

Given his expensive contract, general manager Brett Veach decided to cut Berry this offseason since the team was already against the cap. Now the Chiefs will move on with Tyrann Mathieu playing the same box safety role that Berry has held for years.
