Ian Rapoport is reporting that free agent cornerback Darqueze Dennard is set to visit with the Kansas City Chiefs next week.

Former Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Darqueze Dennard is set to visit with the Kansas City Chiefs in the coming days, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The Chiefs are in the market for a cornerback in free agency, as shown by the fact that they have already brought in Ronald Darby for a long visit. Darby spent time with Kansas City for much of this week, but left without a deal and ultimately signed a one-year deal to return to the Philadelphia Eagles to reset his market value coming off of a torn ACL.

The Chiefs have already lost Steven Nelson, their most consistent corner from last season, this spring to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Nelson signed a three-year deal to play opposite Joe Haden in the Steel City. That leaves Kendall Fuller, Tremon Smith and Charvarius Ward as the Chiefs options on the roster—a perilously thin group that would likely rank among the NFL’s worst units.

Dennard was the Bengals first round choice in the 2014 NFL Draft. He’s been entrenched as their slot corner for most of that time, playing in 68 games in Cincy over the last five NFL seasons. He’s now hitting the market for the first time after a season in which he played in 13 games and made a career-high 19 starts. He had 68 total tackles, 6 passes defended and one fumble recovery.

Dennard, who stands 5’11, 200 lb., is only 27-years-old. If he comes in to play the same position for the Chiefs, Fuller would likely sit as an outside corner for the Chiefs base defense.
