The Rest of the Field

This final list of players are guys you often see ranked or mocked in the same range as many of the other backs in this post. However, for one reason or another none of them really jumped out at me.

Ryquell Armstead, Temple

Temple’s Ryquell Armstead does have an intriguing mix of size/power/speed but he runs a little upright for my liking and I just worry that his success won’t carry over to the NFL. He also wasn’t much of a factor in the passing game with only 32 career catches in his last three seasons of playing time.

Myles Gaskin, Washington

Another smaller back (5-foot-9, 205 pounds) that is a solid all-around runner but probably doesn’t have the size or power to be a force between the tackles at the next level or the speed/pass catching ability to make a living as a change of pace or 3rd down back.

Karan Higdon, Michigan

Just read what I wrote about Myles Gaskin again here for Higdon only add one whole pound on to his weight.

Dexter Williams, Notre Dame

He’s a patient runner who can successfully get what is there but doesn’t create a lot on his own. He has enough size/speed/power to stick around in the NFL and maybe even make some spot starts if needed but I don’t see the upside for a lot more than that. Wasn’t a factor in the passing game either. If the Chiefs want to add another Williams in this draft they are better off with Trayveon Williams.

Mike Weber, Ohio State

Weber is another jack of all trades but master of none type. He has the speed and power to be a rotational contributor but isn’t really strong enough in one area to make him a big-time target on draft day. He’s okay as a pass protector and pass catcher but there are other guys that are better in those areas too.

So there you have it Chiefs fans. My guide to the running back class for the 2019 NFL Draft. Despite their recent signing of Carlos Hyde I really do believe they could find a cheap long term option in the mid to late rounds of this draft. So what do you think? Are there guys on this list that you’d love to see the Chiefs take a chance on? Is there someone I left off the list that you think deserves to be on it? I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments below.
