Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce recently had ankle surgery, which will keep him from the team’s spring programs.

NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo reported on Twitter on Saturday morning that Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce had surgery on his ankle, in what is being called a ‘cleanup’. This ankle surgery will not be a major hindrance to Kelce’s participation in training camp, according to Garafolo.

While Kelce will end up missing offseason training activities, which includes veteran minicamps and rookie training and ingratiation into the team and league. He will be available for the training camp which starts at the end of July, per Garafolo. For a veteran like Kelce, the timing should be no big deal.

Kelce had the best season of his career in 2018, with 1,336 receiving yards on 103 receptions and 10 touchdowns. This elite season led to him being selected as a starter in the Pro Bowl, but he ultimately decided to sit out after the Chiefs lost to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship.

Kelce was not a frequent flier on the injury report throughout the season for the Chiefs, which suggests that he likely finished the season dealing with pain in his ankle before undergoing surgery. Kelce has also played in every single game for the last five full seasons for K.C. Here’s hoping the surgery is a non-issue moving forward and Kelce remains in All-Pro form for years to come.
